Wines
Alicante
The Alicante is a very popular general drinking red wine. It has a light
acidity and low tannin levels, so it is ready to drink in just a few months.
Barolo Classico
The king of red wines made from Nebbiolo grapes grown in the Piedmont
region for a rich, bold tannic wine. The Barolo is known for a complex
range of flavours including mixed berries, ripe fruit, and fine herbs--
all offset with a hearty addition of oak. This wine calls for aging to

Cabernet Merlot
From the Friuli region of northeast Italy this juice is a blend of the two
very popular grapes. The blend results in the complex depth and berry notes
of the Cabernet made earthy and smooth by the Merlot. A moderate level of
oak makes this blend ready for peak character sooner than the pure Cabernet
as well. Age 6 months at least, 12 for optimum character.
Cabernet Sauvignon
From the north and central regions of Italy this famous varietal produces
tannic full-bodied wines with impressive notes of berry, herbs, and pepper.
Generous oaking levels means it ages very well, best left 6-12 months, and
peaking in character after 4 years.
Merlot
From the Friuli and Veneto regions of northeast Italy, the Merlot grown here
is famous for its velvet smoothness and rich character, which features notes
of cherry and plum. Moderate oaking allows this wine to consumed in 6 months
with a peak of character after 1-3 years.
Montepulciano
A medium to light bodied red wine, perhaps along the lines of Valpolicello.
Great with most foods and ready to drink quickly.
Pinot Nero
Principally grown in the mountainous Trentino-Alto Adige region, the Pinot
Nero (Pinot Noir grape) offers a brilliant cherry red wine with notes of
mixed berries. A low tannin level makes this wine drinkable within 3 months,
but it ages well too.
Red Zinfandel
This is the famous "Primitivo" grape from the Puglia region of
southeast Italy. It is complex full-bodied wine with a deep red colour and
savory spicy notes and distinct oak character. Best age 6 to 12 months with
peak character after 3 years.
Shiraz
This prized varietal features intense berry notes which range from raspberry
to plum and cherry. Subtle herbs and spicy complement the oak for a great
wine. Age 6 months to 3 years.
Sangiovese
The classic grape of Tuscany and the heart of Chianti and Brunello, two of
Italy's most famous wines. This grape offers powerful red and tannic
character with complex blends of black cherry and spices with subdued
oakiness. Ages well to 4 years or more.
White
Wines
Chardonnay
Grown in the central and northern regions of Italy the Chardonnay produces a
brilliant gold wine with a clean, crisp character. Notes of pear, green
apple, and peach are balanced with a light oak finish. Ages better than most
white wines (because of the oak); ready in 3 months but ages to 3 years.
Frascati
A classic Italian white wine from the region south of Rome. Noted for a
rich golden colour, delicate aroma, and dry finish. Unlike most white
wines, the Frascati ages well.
Gewurtztraminer
From the Trentino-Alto Adige region of northern Italy, this varietal
features a dry finish with notes of tropical fruit, flowers and spices. This
wine peaks early. Age between 3 and 24 months
Moscato
The Piedmont region of northwest Italy is famous for its Moscato grapes
which give a strong bouquet of exotic fruit with complex spices and floral
notes in the finish. Best consumed before these vanish. Age 1 month
Pinot Grigio
This grape is mostly grown in the Trentino - Friuli regions of northern
Italy. The Grigio varietal is a very special grape known for its low acidity
and soft fruit finish, and orange-peach colour. There are hints of
strawberries and gentle spices balanced with just a hint of oak. Age 3
months
Riesling
The Trentino - Friuli regions were controlled by the Austro-Hungarian empire
when about 1850 the Riesling grape was introduced. It produces a dry noble
wine with light citrus notes and clean finish which is especially good with
seafood. A lively young wine, best aged 3 months at most.
Sauvignon Blanc
This grape comes from the Veneto - Friuli regions and makes a fine dry wine
with notes of herbs, citrus, and oak with a hint of fruit. Age 3 months to 2
years.
Verdicchio
The eastern coast of Italy known as the Marches produces the famous
Verdicchio wine. This wine is medium bodied with a delicate bouquet and
subtle flavour of tart apple. Ages well from 3 months to 3 years.
Zinfandel
Blush Made from the Zinfandel grape (Primitivo) this wine has some of the
complexity of the red version, but the delicious flavour is enhanced by a
great floral bouquet. An excellent wine for all casual gatherings. Best
consumed while young, so age 1 to 18 months.
